straddling the crunch
of ice cube buoys
adrift in his frozen milkshake,
I can’t help but wonder,
how did we get so small?

she assumes every head nods
in solidarity
as she reads her scifaiku—
but I’ve never seen
even a single episode
of star trek
✱
orbital traffic’s nonexistent
rubbery whine —
no airborne atmospherics
to circulate the rocket’s tread
