dying over and over and over again

If you are into anime, darker comics, chill alternative, or indie drama's then you are in store for an incredible week. If not... well, then maybe you can catch up on some shows behind on. Or go touch grass or something like thatβbecause there's not much here for you this week if that's the case.

πΊ New Shows
πΏ Devil May Cry (Netflix) β 3 Apr
A new Netflix Anime series based on the video game Devil May Cry. It's a series I know very little about, but one thing Netflix has done successfully is pump out some pretty great anime, including a few other series' based on games so if DMC or anime is your thing, this is definitely one to check out.
π« The Bondsman (Amazon) β 3 Apr
Kevin Bacon stars in this new Amazon show as a backwoods bounty hunter with some apparent demonic twists happening. I don't pay for Prime so I won't be able to check this out anytime soon, but Damon Herriman, who I absolutely love, is also in it.
𫦠Dying for Sex (Hulu) β 4 Apr
This is probably the biggest new show of the week starring Michelle Williams playing the main character as she discovers she has stage IV cancer, leaves her husband, and explores her sexual desires. It also has some very funny people in the cast including Jenny Slate and Rob Delaney.
βοΈ Lazarus (Adult Swim) β 6 Apr
And the biggest anime release of the week has to be Lazarus. They've already rolled out three different soundtracks from Kamasi Washington, Bonobo, and Floating Points. There's a bunch of hype around this one because it comes from the same person who created the Cowboy Bebop anime, Shinichiro Watanabe, and the action sequences are designed by the John Wick director, Chad Stahelski.

π½ Release of this Week
β°οΈ The Long Way Round by Maya Delilah
This debut record from singer-songwriter and guitarist Maya Delilah is absolutely killer if you are into soul, jazz, or blues. And she can absolutely shred on guitar in that jazz fusion / blues way.
Current Favorite Track: Jeffrey

π Runner-ups
π Patience, Moonbeam by Great Grandpa
Midwest Emo Alt-Folk? That's how I'd describe this one at least and it's super enjoyable if you are in the right mental space for it.
CFT: Ladybug
π΄οΈ Jump Into Life by SACRED PAWS
The most fast-paced, but still somehow chill indie alt record of all time. It won't get things moving or break any grounds, but it still manages to be an enjoyable listen as you go about your day to pick things up a bit without distracting or attracting too much attention.
CFT: Turn Me Down

- Little Death Wishes by CocoRosie
- Portrait of My Heart by Spelling
- For You by Yukimi

- Letters from the Atlantic by Butcher Brown

π¦Έ No. 1's
πͺ I Was a Fashion School Serial Killer (Image)
Dexter meets Nailbiter in this book from Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard about a serial killer who just wants to be a fashion designer. It sounds and looks like a ton of fun even if I don't really know much work from these creators (who have been at it for awhile despite my ignorance).
πͺ¦ Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma (DC)
This was an honorable mention in my most anticipated books of 2025 purely based on Ram V's involvement. I read a Resurrection Man story over a decade ago and remember enjoying it, but not much else. V is joined by Anand Radhakrishnan who previously did Blue in Green together to rave reviews.
πͺ Absolute Green Lantern (DC)
Al Ewing, one of the best writers at weaving together comics history, is taking on the new Green Lantern as part of the Absolute Universe alongside artist Jahnoy Lindsay, as they launch Sojourner Mullein, a black female Green Lantern without a ring. Super excited for this one as GL in the hands of a good writer is always enjoyable and Ewing is at the top of his game right now.
π§ Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell (Marvel)
Charles Soule and Steve McNiven take on an older, powerless Matt Murdock in this miniseries as the world is in shambles.
ποΈ Plague House (Oni)
Michael Conrad, who co-wrote the fun Batgirls, is joined by artist Dave Chisholm in this stylish looking ghost story from Oni.

π What Else?
- The Lucky Devils #3 (Image)
- Monkey Meat: The Summer Batch #2 (Image)
- The Goon: Them That Don't Stay Dead #4 (Dark Horse)
- Cruel Kingdom #4 (Oni)
- Let This One Be a Devil #2 (Dark Horse)
- Absolute Superman #6 (DC)
- ThunderCats #14 (Dynamite)
- Ultimate X-Men #14 (Marvel)
- X-Men #14 (Marvel)

π₯ New Movies
π¦ A Nice Indian Boy (Limited)
Most people will probably recognize Karan Soni from the Deadpool movies, as he provided some additional comic relief in short bursts. With this movie, Soni is center stage as he brings a very white Jonathan Groff home to his traditional Indian parents. The hilarious Sunita Mani is also in the cast. I'm hoping this will deliver on the comedic talent present.
π§ Freaky Tales (Limited)
I'm not so sure this one will deliver, but I'm still intrigued by Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, and Jay Ellis coming together in this one from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck that appears to be a lot of smaller stories that end up intertwined with each other.
π Eric Larue (Limited)
Michael Shannon makes his directorial debut with this pretty depressing sounding drama about a couple, faith, and violence. It stars Judy Greer, Paul Sparks, Alexander Skarsgard, and Alison Pill.
π΄οΈThe Luckiest Man in America
Lastly, Paul Walter Hauser stars as Michael Larson in this movie based on the true story about the Press Your Luck scandal where Larson discovers the pattern behind the game in 1984 and manages to win a record-breaking 100 grand. And if you haven't gotten your fix of Walton Goggins in The White Lotus and Righteous Gemstones, then you're in luck!
