Trying something new this month and shifting the media guide to monthly. We will still cover all the releases for the month, but the format will be a bit different, and more of it will be exclusive to our paying subscribers including a new TV Guide that you can download and print out to follow along all month. Plus, given the couple weeks we missed during the transition, the Foofaraw Four has been expanded to 13 to catch up on the late August releases.

🎬 Resident Evil

This is Zack Cregger's giant budget IP movie to follow-up Weapons, which was Foofaraw's pick for best film of 2025. I don't think I've played or seen anything Resident Evil related before in my life, but with Cregger behind the camera, this is one of my most anticipated movies. It's especially cool to hear he isn't playing in the same cannon as previous movies—and if I remember correctly, he hasn't even watched the previous movies himself. The trailer looks and feels full octane with non-stop action and thrills.

📚 Crowbound #1 — Image Comics

It's the return of the super duo Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen following up their Little Monsters series (with another short break tackling a Batman & Robin series). They are billing it as "Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale meets Cormac McCarthy's The Road with echoes of Kill Bill and Pan's Labyrinth" combine that with the team behind it, it's a can't miss. Based on the cover alone, Lemire seems to be bringing more of his darker themes he typically reserves for Sorrentino into the fold here with Nguyen, which should make for an interesting blend of styles.

🎵 Brennan Wedl by Brennan Wedl

I hadn't heard of Brennan Wedl before now, but I saw they opened for Waxahatchee, who also co-produced this album alongside Brad Cook, and that was really all I needed to know to give a shot. It's less rock and more country than Waxahatchee, but it still brings a wonderful energy, some fuzzy guitar and great angsty lyrics.

🎬 Bucking Fastard

Coming off of this years earlier Ghost Elephants documentary, Werner Herzog is back with a new non-documentary movie starring the Mara sisters in a bit of a trippy story about twins. Not only do they finish each others sentences, but they have the same dreams as well. I'm fascinated to see how Herzog tackles this idea.
