📺 The Media Guide S8E4

So I took last week off after some travel to Chicago, but it's not like we missed anything—no giant summer tentpole blockbuster or anything like that, so no biggie, right..?

Well besides the obvious, we did miss our chance to talk up Hulu's new Furious, which sounds like it has a shot at being pretty fun. Plus Christian Ward's new book, The Patron, from Ignition Comics, as well as The Horror of Godzilla from Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan, and Tristan Jones.

This week, however, looks a lot more interesting.

The reviews are in and this sounds like it's going to be a contender for a lot of awards. Matt Johnson, who already wrote, directed, and starred in Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie earlier this year to rave reviews is back with is second "real studio" movie following 2023's BlackBerry, which I never got around to seeing, but heard great things about. Dominic Sessa plays the titular 19-year-old Tony after his breakout in The Holdovers, alongside Antonio Banderas as Chef.

🎵 Criostal by Absolute Lilt

I'm not sure how to even talk about this record, but it's an absolute delight. There's no way to mentally prepare for the gorgeous weirdness that is this album. Go in with no expectations, maybe throw on your best headphones or stereo system, close your eyes, and enjoy the ride.

📚 Fort Psycho #1 — Oni Press

I'm not sure the combination of writer, series name, and cover art has ever felt more perfect together. Matt Kindt is probably the second most creative writer in comics (behind the mad scientist Si Spurrier) and "Fort Psycho" just has a nice ring to it alongside the amazingly bright and colorful cover art.

I have a soft spot for USA Blue Sky dramas so I figured I'd highlight Anna Pigeon here over the show everyone else will be talking about given the return of Ted Lasso.
