📺 The Media Guide S7E4
April 20, 2026 – April 26, 2026
It’s been quite the week. Ever since we opened up submissions and got listed on The Submission Grinder, we have been inundated with pretty awesome stuff. It’s been tough to keep up with.
We are also working on rolling out a couple new features for [**+]** paid subscribers:
Don’t quite have the rhythm yet for the playlists, but the media calendar is 99% ready and should be made available to subscribers through tomorrow’s review of links.
This week we have some pretty exciting shows, some kick-ass albums, two #1 issues from the V, and a slew of indie movies (along with some big boys too).
Let’s get to it!

We regret the following errors…
I don’t know how it happened because I had been talking about it previously, but I completely missed including Manhunt on Apple, which debuted it’s first two episodes last week. This has been rectified in the schedule.

what’s on tv this week
We’ve discussed this in review of links, but I think the GoT guys should be able to nail it. Early reviews are generally positive on it as well. If you haven’t read the books–it’s some pretty intellectual sci-fi that I personally struggle to see how they pull it off on the screen.

Kristin Wiig is back on TV in this period comedy mini-series based on the novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel. I’m excited for this and hoping it can deliver in a similar way _Lessons in Chemistry _did.
We talked about this one in review of links too after the show runner was fired. We still don’t know why… But this seems like a pretty big nostalgia trip that should grab anyone who grew up with the original animated series.

this past Friday’s best album releases
I don’t think there was ever a second of doubt what album would be crowned this week. It was predetermined as soon as this album was announced. There are few people as wild and creative as Tierra Whack. A lot of modern, mainstream rap is done in a mumbly voice with a basic rhythm where rappers never leave “the pocket”. Whack shows that, sure, she can do that too. But she does so much more.
There’s a reason her first big debut was the visual album Whack World. She is able to paint a picture with her sounds. Even if you ignore the words, her voice and her cadence flow with the production that if you close your eyes, you can see the pop art nature of it all. It’s truly glorious.

this weeks best comic releases
The first of two Ram V #1’s this week! This one features art from the incomparable Jesse Lonergan. Lonergan is truly special. He makes music with his art, utilizing incredibly high panel count per page and tells stories in a way you don’t even need dialogue or descriptions half the time. I’m incredibly excited for this book.

The second #1 from Ram V sees him paired up with Evan Cagle who has been the cover artist on Ram’s excellent Detective Comics run. Those covers are gorgeous so I’m thrilled to see Cagle work on interiors based on a Ram V script.

movies hitting the big screen this week
In 1977 a live television broadcast goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms.

An overworked and underpaid production assistant shoots a workplace safety video commissioned by a multinational company, but a scandal erupts when one interviewee reveals the company’s liability in an accident.
On a stormy night, Patrick, a seemingly troubled man, is visited by a mysterious woman, asking for shelter at his mobile home. As the night unfolds, their anxiety and mutual mistrust grow, causing fear and paranoia to engulf the small RV.
A jaded detective travels to a remote Outback town in Australia to investigate the cold case murder of a local indigenous girl 20 years earlier.

Quite the week.
I’m working on streamlining these issues a bit–less of my voice, more to the point info–in order to free up some time to bring other cool things to the table. You’ve gotten a hint of that already with this week’s (and last’s) silver screen voyage section where I’ve only included the quoted taglines.
Let me know if you hate this decision.
Stay sane,
