🆕 On the shelves

🐍 METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER

KONAMI
A remake of the 2004 game METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, with the same gripping story and engrossing world, now with all new graphics and 3D audio that enhance the jungle atmosphere. Get ready for the ultimate survival stealth action experience.

I’m a fan of the series, but probably won’t pick this up until it’s on sale in a year or so. I’m in no rush to replay MGS3.

📡 On the radar

🪲 Hollow Knight: Silksong

Team Cherry
Discover a vast, haunted kingdom in Hollow Knight: Silksong! Explore, fight and survive as you ascend to the peak of a land ruled by silk and song.

Silksong has been the most anticipated game since the original came out in 2017 (I played it and loved it, too). It started out as DLC for Hollow Knight, but then morphed into a standalone game and has been in development for the last... checks watch... 8 years!

I talked about this game a few editions ago (here), and I’m super pleased to know that the rumors were true and it is finally getting released next month!

🏰 omw

A viral tweet of an AI-generated pixel art game caused some commotion in the gaming world. It shows an FPS perspective of a warrior or knight, holding a sword in their right hand, walking towards a tall black castle in the distance.

What’s so crazy about that?

The character’s movement through the space looks smooth, and the layers of background art seem almost infinite as the player approaches. Take a look.

According to this post, games industry professionals and pundits seem to think that:

  1. This visual style already exists
  2. This visual style doesn’t exist, but I’ve attempted to re-create it
  3. This visual style will never and could never exist
  4. This visual style does not yet exist, but it could in theory
  5. This visual style did not exist before this week, but it does now, thanks to an AI model even more advanced than Midjourney

Well, anyway, the OP has started to build this game without using AI (really??).

I think this is just a cash grab, tbh. Let’s see though!

⏱️ Play instantly on Discord

It's not a game, but it's still on the radar. A new collaboration between Nvidia, Discord, and Epic Games might see a Google Stadia-like cloud gaming service coming to Discord soon.

🪓 Absolum

Dotemu
Crafted with passion by the dream team that redefined side-scrolling beat 'em ups

Created by the team behind Streets of Rage 4, with Animation by Supamonks, who have done a ton of work for SUPERCELL.

Fight as the outcast heroes of Talamh in a fierce battle to retake magic from Sun King Azra’s grasp in Absolum, an original roguelite beat ‘em up by Dotemu.

It has a hand-drawn Hollow Knight-like aesthetic with lots and lots of juice.

Their original fantasy world looks impressive, and the enemies in the trailer remind me of Guardian Heroes, another excellent side-scroller on Saturn.

🚶‍➡️ Big Walk

House House
Hang out and get lost with close friends in a big world. A cooperative online walker-talker from the creators of Untitled Goose Game.

The new trailer for I’m is so wholesome and chill, I’m really excited to get a hold of this one.

🎮 In rotation

🤓 mo.co

Supercell
Are you ready for the part-time adventure of a lifetime? mo.co is recruiting hunters to help us fight back against Chaos Monsters from parallel worlds who started invading Earth! No experience necessary. Flexible hours. Fun team environment.

I’ve been a big fan of the recent Supercell games. Brawl Stars is a great, casual MOBA, as is Squad Busters. So when I heard they had a new game in their catalogue, I had to jump on it.

This is a soft MMO-style game in which you dive into a world, defeat a bunch of enemies, and then jump out again.

I'm at 14 and I’ve only experienced one of the more difficult “rifts,” which are essentially MMO instances. In these, you typically clear a bunch of trash mobs (oh, how I miss Molten Core runs with my guild on WoW... actually, no, not really. We wiped out way too many times!) before getting to a boss. To defeat the boss, you want to think about your team composition, so you have a tank, ranged DPS, and then a healer.

Weapon choice sets you up as a class, so you’re ranged, melee, healer, tank, etc. For spells, you have a choice of about four different abilities that are on cooldowns. Things like an AoE heal, enemy stun, increased attack speed, etc.

I’ve only just scratched the surface, but I can see myself getting into this over the next couple of months

FFVII Remake

  • This is just a quick note to say that I am nearly finished with the FFVII remake and am seriously considering getting a PS5 to play Rebirth.
