A quick look at games for December from James
๐ On the Shelves
๐บ Neva
Experience the moving tale of a young woman and her lifelong bond with a magnificent wolf as they embark on a thrilling adventure through a rapidly dying world.
- The sequel(?) to Gris, so you know it's going to have a moving story.
- Includes a "pet" this time, to accompany you on quests. You work together to overcome the challenges and puzzles in the game.
- Short and beautiful.
๐ญ Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
Embark on a magical journey in Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed! Shape your adventure with the stroke of a brush and transform Wasteland as Mickey Mouse in this beautifully recreated 3D platformer.
- Disney, so cute. But also a polished update of the original Wii game.
- It has a Splatoon-like mechanic of recovering the world through splashing paint around.
๐ Loco Motive
On the Reuss Express a passenger has been murdered, and youโre the prime suspects. Uncover a thrilling mystery and solve satisfying point and click puzzles to prove your innocence! A slapstick adventure, packed full of deadly surprises, shocking twists and larger than life characters!
- A 2D point-and-click adventure (think: Secret of Monkey Island), created by Robust Games (who I'm not familiar with..!) and published by Chucklefish (Starbound).
- The voice acting is supposed to be great, and the visual style (pixel art) is really well made.
- Not played yet, but keen to check it out!
๐ฆ Sonic Rumble
- Sonic + Fall Guys
๐ก On the Radar
๐ฒ Gibberers
- A rare analog game appears!
- I've not played this yet, hence its inclusion in the "on the radar" list. But I'm keen to check this one out.
- From what I hear, the game is about making a shared language and then using that language to describe other things. So, for example, you might have a word for water and stick, and you use them to try and explain the word "umbrella"
- Think "toki pona" the game.
๐ฅฌ Dome King Cabbage
A short visual novel set in the world of a monster-collecting RPG. Grappling with their ability to perceive reality through an RPG lens, Mush navigates their way to a job interview for the enigmatic title of 'Dome-King.
- Just go check out the graphics on this one. Super unique.
๐งโ๐ซ Prof. Layton and the New World of Steam
- Coming next year, a new chapter in the Professor Layton series.
- Puzzles by QuizKnock (a famous YouTube channel in Japan).
๐ฎ In Rotation
๐งถ Cocoon
From Jeppe Carlsen, the lead gameplay designer of LIMBO and INSIDE โ COCOON takes you on an adventure across worlds within worlds. Master world-leaping mechanics and solve intricate puzzles to unravel a cosmic mystery.
- Picked this up in the Steam Autumn sale finally.
- Fascinating concept which might simply be described as "inception."
- There are a number of spheres which are worlds that can be entered. You can also carry these spheres into the worlds that you enter and use them within, hence the Inception idea.
