🤖 Chappell Roan Says She’s Voting for Kamala Harris, but “Endorsing and Voting Are Completely Different” /// THR

I have so many issues with our government in every way. There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don’t feel pressured to endorse someone. There’s problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote — vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.

I really dig Chappell Roan. Her music is poppy and catchy and she seems like a smart and honest person. First, making an effort to build boundaries between herself and her fans—our overall obsession with famous people is just super weird and toxic—and second with this stance: being vocal about what she believes and the actions she's taking, but not acting in a way she feels people should follow her lead just because she's a famous pop star. Just wonderful. If only Taylor Swift would make an effort to get these sorts of things through the thick skulls of the obsessive Swifties who feel like any criticism about her is an attack on their own being.

💟 Erin Foster Made the Rom-Com of the Year with Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This’ — Here’s How /// Indiewire

The Netflix rom-com deals with typical early relationship hurdles like combining friend groups and looming exes (common, charming) but also explores the day-to-day practicalities of dating a faith leader (less common, more intriguing).

I've been seeing a lot of positive stuff about this rom-com show since I included it in The Media Guide Monday. I had a feeling there was potential there for it to be more than some of the other low-brow rom-com's Netflix has released and I'm super pleased to see I may have been correct. Maybe I'll give it a watch now too...

🟢 Kyle Chandler to Star in HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ Series /// THR

Lanterns is described as having a gritty, True Detective vibe as it focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart, who in DC publishing history was one of the company’s first Black superheroes. The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Sources say that DC and the producers are looking for a young, more fresh-faced actor for the role to play opposite an older and bigger name.
Lanterns, which scored a straight-to-series order in June after years of development, comes from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (WatchmenLost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.

🏮 Sean Durkin to Direct HBO's ‘Lanterns' /// World of Reel

If you’re wondering what Sean Durkin has been cooking after “The Iron Claw,” he’s supposedly in talks to board HBO’s “Lanterns,” and will be directing a “handful” of episodes for the limited series

Lanterns really looks like it's shaping up to be pretty special. I love the idea of it being more gritty like True Detective as Hal Jordan mentors a young John Stewart and Kyle Chandler is the perfect person to play Jordan in that manner. Add in Durkin, who, by all accounts, can do the whole gritty, brotherly thing (I haven't seen The Iron Claw yet). Add in Damon Lindelof and the great Tom King, and you really have the makings for something special. Really excited to see who they case in the John Stewart role.
