๐ŸŽ‰ Weekend Edition Vol.031

Comments are live!

I originally held off on introducing comments around here because they either get toxic or are just non-existent. With Ghost I can limit commenting to just "members" (both free and paid) so at least there's a small barrier of having to input your e-mail.

The next hill to overcome is on your shoulders: comments need to exist! Maybe be a trendsetter and drop the first official comment.

I've tinkered with different ways to build a community around foofaraw and the love of storytelling in the past, but was recently inspired by Front Porch Forum and figured I'd take one more crack at it.

So come hang out with me! I figure the Media Guides will be a great place to talk about what people are excited about, what we're enjoying, etc.

Over in the foofaraw newsroom, things have been picking up steam once again. We've got a whole backlog of killer stuff that I can't wait to start hitting publish on.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves... This week had some terrific writing.

First up, the fifth story from Joel Glover within the world of the Cavendish Mining Company. I continue to be delighted with the way Joel picks up small threads and uses them to flesh out this world. And this one has me salivating for some arepas. Enjoy this with you morning coffeeโ€”can't imagine a better way to start a weekend.

Then Jack talks about the new kid on the block in note-taking and PKM, SilverBullet. It's one that's been enticing to me ever since I read about it in Plain Text. Paper, Less, but figuring out how to host it is outside my comfort zone and I can't be bothered nowadays to figure it out. It does sound interesting though...

Last Friday, Jack touched on a feeling I can relate to on his Daily Notes blog:

After using SilverBullet for a while, I think I might know why. It's the file tree and sidebar. SilverBullet doesn't have one (by default) and so I spend no time "organizing" things. I just make a new note and move on.

The filetree in Obsidian is what gets me everytime.

This month Jack explores the magic of a silver bullet

And then we had our first break-out issue for just music. There were tons of great releases last Friday so hop in the comments and let me know what you've been digging!

And of course, as always, we published The Media Guide and Review of Links.

I was inspired by Status to rethink some of the formatting here for RoL. It's not too different from what I was doing in the past, but I'm hoping the Below the Fold section is a little easier to digest with so much news packed in for the week. This will continue to be a Friday feature. It just makes more sense to cover the weeks news that way.

[+] 16 August 2024
David Lynch, an Aronofsky Plastic Man, Samuraiโ€™s and Wolfs

Alright, that's it. No [+] feature this week since RoL is back, but I do still want to figure out a plan to write essays (or publish essays from others) for paying subscribers down here.

See you Monday!

Stay sane and be kind,
