Happy Monday all and to all a happy Monday!
Well I guess the day is already almost over... but I'm here to tell you the week is going to be great! And if anyone tries to tell you otherwise, just ignore 'em, fire 'em, and find someone who will tell you what you want to hear. And then when the things around you start to fall apart because of your terrible decisions, you can blame someone else.
If you couldn't already tell, I'm in a mood.
This is a surprising week in that I'm excited by all four sections, but the movies coming out this week are especially exciting.
A completely AI and algorithm-free approach to music discovery.
Break out of your bubble by shuffling all of the music in the world, totally at random! Link your Apple Music account to listen to the full songs, otherwise listen to 30-second previews.
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are back for the second season of their sometimes funny, sometimes cringey platonic friend comedy. Season one ended in a place where it felt like it might be a one and done, so I'm curious to see how they tackle a second season.
I haven't watched Wednesday yet, but my wife has and she is very much looking forward to her next flight so she can binge the entire second season in one go.
King of the Hill was never really my jam back in the day. I'm familiar with it and have season the occasional episode, but the early reviews for this look very promisingβmuch better than the Beevis & Butthead revival, I hope.
We featured Sea Glass in an edition of The Media Guide way back in February 2024 as a surprise hit and with this follow-up they take the smooth and easy vibes and dial it in even more with Sky Adler on every track this go-around instead of just a handful. It's an excellent subtle, easy, and delightful little pop album.
A wonderfully ambitious rap album that explores genre and sounds in fun and exciting new ways.
The man is nearly 90 and still killing it. How can I not mention this new album. Some fun features here too.
Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan follow up their hit Eisner-nominated debut comic, Kill Your Darlings, with a new book from Boom and art by debut artist Keith Browning. This feels like a pretty big swing for their second book, bringing along a fresh artist to the comics scene, but they appear to have a pretty good handle on blending the personal with the surreal.
I don't know the first thing about this but between that awesome cover and wanting to support more indie/alt comics, this appears to be perfect.
Another one from the indie/alt world. This time, one half of the Love & Rockets team, Gilbert Hernandez, brings along his daughter, Natalia Hernandez for a two part story.
Speaking of Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, they actually have two debuts this week! Supplementing their second creator-owned book with their first licensed series as part of the brand new Godzilla universe from IDW with art from Pablo Tunica (TMNT).
More anthology goodness from Oni and EC with stories by Charlie Adlard, Kano, Ann Nocenti, David Rubin, and more.
The first of a two-parter from Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden with art by Alex Nieto.
Julia Garner and Josh Brolin star in Zach Kregger's follow-up to his feature debut hit, Barbarian. I enjoyed Barbarian, but thought some of the hype was a bit overblown. Yet, I'm still incredibly excited for Weapons as it appears to have a more psychological bend to it while sprinkling in some creepy horror goodness.
I've been following Julian Glander for awhile now. He has such a fun 3D take on art. So when I saw his first animated feature where he serves as writer/director, I was quite excited. I don't even know what this is about, but I'm here for it.
