Back with the second newsletter of the day! Thanks for your patience and understanding in my time of self-inflicted suffering. I once again feel alive, it just took 48 hours... and I feel like if I try to use any more mental energy, my brain might explode, so let's get on with it, shall we?
There are points in your life that are defined by music. Songs represent relationships. Songs trigger memories. These are all crucial tracks.
Crucial Tracks is the song-a-day music journal where you share the songs that play a role in your life. Integrates with Apple Music, Mastodon, and Bluesky. Free!
This animated show with an absolutely stacked cast is back with another season. I wasn't blown away by the first one, especially when you compare the creativity to something like Scavengers Reign, which came out a bit earlier, but this was still fun.
New FX comedies are always something to look forward to as they've nailed the special sauce to launch these types of shows and give creativity people some free reign to just go and be funny. Other than that, I don't know much about the people making this and am just going off the FX vibes for this rec.
Scott Frank is 3/3 for creating shows at this point (Godless, Queen's Gambit, Monsieur Spade) so I have a hard time coming up with reasons to doubt his ability to deliver with his newest show for Netflix. It's misfit cops solving crimes in the UK, which is a pretty simple, but watchable concept.
This one flew under the radar for me, but when you have Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as starring roles in a mini-series, it's hard to ignore. The premise is basically The Banger Sisters (one put together sister + one just trying to make ends meet sister) except played for drama instead of comedy as the put together sister's husband is found murdered.
Gonna be brief here since there wasn't that much new music, I'm behind, and we've got enough new stuff between tv, comics, and movies already!
Super fun and unique blend of folk, emo, and punk here. Almost MJ Lenderman like, but with more folksiness and more emoness.
A fun upbeat record that feels reminiscent of Noah Kahan mixed with The Lumineers, and maybe a dollop of Jimmie Buffet.
And lastly, a fast, hectic punk record that is anything but an easy listen.
From the Ninth Circle imprint comes a one-shot black comedy/action-horror about an influencer mom, some mysterious child disappearances, and the lengths one mom will go to win "Mommy of the Year" no matter who gets in the way.
I honestly don't know much about this or Cosmic Lion for that matter, but the cover has just enough style for me to be intrigued given my desire to read more indies.
Another indie I know nothing about (including Space Between), but the cover looks fun enough to pull me in.
Set in 1349 England, the Pale Knight returns home to a ravaged land only to make a deal with the devil to save his son. And it's written by Peter Milligan with art by Val Rodrigues.
Chris Condon's (That Texas Blood) new graphic novella set in the old west done completely in a painterly style by artist Shawn Kuruneru.
Lastly, if you are still looking for something new, you can check this one out as well...
New Wes Anderson. Enough said!
First feature film from Jesse Armstrong, creator of Succession, looks like a lot of fun. It stars Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Ramy Youssef, and Cory Michael Smith as four tech billionaires who meet up at a fancy mountain lodge and then we see how they react to some world altering events while together. It looks like another fantastic satire on the wealthy from Armstrong and surprisingly is being released directly on HBO.
This is the newest horror film from the Talk To Me team of Danny and Michael Philippou. Talk To Me didn't blow me away, but it was still enjoyable and I expect a similar concept and delivery from their follow-up here.
This one just looks like a super fun, small budget indie that I feel like won't get much coverage or recognition, so let's make sure we check it out and give some love to the small productions.
