i tried so hard

Whelp, I tried to get this out on time. And then I tried to finish it tonight. I held it hoping I'd get through all of the music from Friday and have something to say about it, but I failed.

So no Sonic Vibrations this time around, but I'll try to get something out soon or maybe have a double issue next week to make up for it.

But while we are here on this quiet Tuesday evening, I figured I'd point out, we had the illustrious comic artist, Jesse Lonergan join us for Consumption Gumption this month. It was an awesome interview and I'm still shocked Jesse agreed to participate as he is my absolute favorite comic artist working right now.

what's new on tv this week

πŸ“Ί New Shows

πŸŽ™οΈ Everybody's Live w/ John Mulaney (Netflix) β€” 12 Mar

I didn't watch Mulaney's Everybody's in LA live Netflix show, but everyone raved about how good it was so I'm excited to see it return as a weekly live show every Wednesday at 7 PT / 10 ET moving forward. First night will feature Michael Keaton, Joan Baez, and Fred Armisen as guests.

πŸ’Š Dope Thief S1 (Apple) β€” 13 Mar

New show from Peter Craig, who's written quite a few movies including The Town, a couple Hunger Games flicks, and The Batman. The real selling point here is Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura, both have been around for awhile, but have either been quiet or just in the background of big blockbusters. This should give them both an opportunity to really shine.

πŸ›Ά Long Bright River S1 (Peacock) β€” 13 Mar

Amanda Seyfried follows up her TV starring roles in The Dropout and The Crowded Room with a show about a Philly cop investigating a string of murders. It looks like it could be decent, but with Peacock, the odds feel 50/50.

πŸ’Ž Oh My God... Yes! S1 (Adult Swim) β€” 10 Mar

And a new animated show that looks wacky and wild.

🦸 No. 1's

🎫 Assorted Crisis Events (Image)

This might be the biggest new comic release of the year so far (although March has a ton of exciting stuff to come). Deniz Camp and Eric Zawadzki bring us a new anthology series about huge (depressing) crisis events.

πŸŒƒ Welcome to Twilight [Minor Threats] (Dark Horse)

New Minor Threats book by Matt Fraction and Mike Allred! I feel like that's all you need to know about this, especially if you're already reading Minor Threats.

πŸ“ Dark Pyramid (Mad Cave)

I'm not familiar with Paul Tobin (writer) or PJ Holden (artist), but the cover of this looks pretty neat and the conspiracy around a pyramid in Denali and the promise of monsters sounds exciting.

movies hitting the big screen this week

πŸŽ₯ New Movies

πŸ‘ Black Bag

New Steven Soderbergh flick starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. It's a spy movie with some Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes to it. I'm pretty excited for it as Fassbender is coming off some interesting (and related) projects in The Killer and The Agency.

🎭 The Actor (Limited)

New film based on a Donald E. Westlake novel, directed and written by Duke Johnson, and starring Andre Holland. Holland plays someone who finds themselves in a small town with no memory of who they are. It looks like it plays with time a bit and Holland's character has to put some puzzle pieces together without knowing who to trust. Memento-lite maybe?

πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ€ Opus

I was really excited about this one, but reviews haven't been too kind. It's the first film written and directed by Mark Anthony Green and it comes from A24. Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich (what a pairing!) star in this together as Edebiri plays a reporter covering Malkovich's return as a mega pop star putting out their first new music in decades. And it devolves into the cult of celebrity as most things do.

πŸ’‰ Novocaine

Hollywood always seems to enjoy trying to take an "every man" and turn them into an action star. They don't often succeed (in my humble opinion), but I think that's what they are going for here as Jack Quaid gets his first big movie as a leading man. I guarantee meetings leading up to the production of this, the suits were looking at this like it could be their John Wick. It won't be that, but it could still be a fun time.
