this past Friday's best album releases

Last week I was late because there were too many fun and interesting albums that I wanted to listen to a bunch and share.

That's not the case this week... I'm late this week because there just wasn't a whole lot that I felt passionate about...

πŸ’½ Release of the Week

β›ͺ El Show Debe Continuar by Little Jesus

An alternative album in Spanish for this weeks pick!

I can't speak to the lyrics, even with my six years of Spanish... but the vocals are angelic, the drums are steady and know when to fade into the background and when to add a little pop, and the guitar shows up in some very pleasant and bright ways that create a fun listening experience though the 12 tracks.

πŸƒ Runner-ups

πŸ› The Human Animal by Rare Americans

I was leaning towards this as the Release of the Week for most of the week, but something in me felt it wouldn't age well. I was reminded of Flobots and Matt & Kim a bit. Nothing against those bandsβ€”they had some positive elements which I enjoyed at the time, but they were very much of that time. While Rare Animals bring a bit more punk to the table, their delivery leans more Flobots than Mac Miller or even Sum-41, unfortunately.

🍾 Champion by Pom Poko

This was a fun, eclectic indie pop record that, now that I'm writing this should've been this weeks pick? I don't know... I don't think there's enough here that would get me to return too often though.

🧯 More Good Stuffs

🎰 Triple Seven by Wishy

I wouldn't go to bat for this record, but there are still some positive things here.

Wishy delivers a solid indie rock / dream-pop record with Triple Seven that never really feels like it knows what it wants to be. It's too ethereal and polished to fit into the fun indie rock alternative lane that I love, but they aren't polished enough to elevate into that pop punk scene.

β›³ Stay Golden by Combat

All Time Low meets A Day to Remember in a pretty harsh and shallow pop punk record.

πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ€ Delicate Steve Sings by Delicate Steve

I really dig a lot of the instrumental covers on this album.
