s4e6โ€”bad scientists emerge from an unholy frame watching over the night as flying saucers enter the atmosphere

So I came to the tough decision as I was putting things weeks issue together to remove Sonic Vibrations and make it it's own thing. Every week I end up publishing late is because of how much time I put into listening to new music, re-listening to it, organizing my thoughts around it, and trying to narrow it down to a refined and concise offering here.

I listen to 15-20 releases multiple times every week to figure out what I liked, disliked, and what's actually worth checking out. (I admit when I come across an album I know is not for me, I will skip it after a minimum of three songs.) And there were so many good releases this past Friday! So getting that figured out between Friday and Monday is a bit of a challenge.

It's by far the section I put the most time into (even if it doesn't look it) so having an extra day or two to dedicate to it should help it become something better. Plus it should help focus these issues a bit more around three mediums of storytelling and and allow me to spend some of that time saved into making these issues better. So I scrapped everything I had for this week and will rework it a bit to make it it's own thing moving forward.

Also! Be sure to check out the new issue of James' Sandbox Victory that I finally got around to hitting publish on today!

๐Ÿ“บ New Shows

๐Ÿ’ Bad Monkey S1 (Apple) โ€” 13 August

Vince Vaughn stars in this new Apple dramedy from Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town, Ted Lasso, Shrinking). I think this is the first Bill Lawrence show that actually has a plot too. It also, apparently, had a super troubled production, which seems to be more and more common with Lawrence after his exit from Ted Lasso. Given all of that, I still have a lot of hope that Bad Monkey will be worth watching given the talent involved.

๐Ÿ‘บ Rick and Morty: The Anime S1 (Adult Swim) โ€” 16 August

I absolutely love the idea of this. Take something people love and hand it over to someone else (Takashi Sano, in this case) to reinterpret in their own way and style. When I first heard about this, I thought it was just going to be a single one hour thing, but apparently there are (at least) four hour-long episodes of this (maybe even ten! Trakt and IMDb both have different opinions on this...)

this weeks best comic releases

๐Ÿฆธ No. 1's

๐Ÿš๏ธ Houses of the Unholy (Image) Hardcover

The new Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips graphic novel is always a special event to be excited for. I don't really think anything else needs to be said. Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it. But if that's not enough, this is a satanic panic FBI story. So go! And if you've never read anything from them before, well, I just feel bad for you... but also excited, because there's an entire back catalog of wonderful crime comics and graphic novels for you to get lost in!

๐Ÿข TMNT: Nightwatcher (IDW)

Following last months TMNT re-launch, we have the first extended universe book coming from writer Juni Ba and artist Fero Peniche. I'm going into this pretty blind, both because TMNT is something that's pretty new for me and I whole-heartedly trust in Juni Ba.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Gilt Frame (Dark Horse)

Matt Kindt is joined by his wife (I think) Margie Kindt in this three issue mini-series for what looks to be a beautiful whodunit murder mystery.

๐Ÿ’ฉ Peepee Poopoo Comics (Silver Sprocket)

There have been a few Peepee Poopoo comics already from Caroline Cash including issue #69 and #420. I haven't had the chance to read them yet, but I've heard a lot of great stuff about her work and stuff from Silver Sprocket in general.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ Babs (Ahoy)

A new number one from Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher) as he is joined by Jacen Burrows for this heavy metal barbarian, swords and sorcery, fantasy story.

๐Ÿ”ด X-Factor (Marvel)

The wonderfully, socially conscious, anti-capitalist writer Mark Russell gets an X book in the From the Ashes relaunch. He's joined by Bob Quinn on art for a team book featuring Angel, Havok, Frenzy, Feral, and Pyro. Russell is a name that doesn't get talked about much, but his writing is always delightful and comes with a critical eye.

๐ŸŽฅ New Movies

๐Ÿ‘ฝ Alien: Romulus

A new Alien film from Fede Alvarez (Don't Breathe) and it looks incredible. You can see the roots of Don't Breathe and horror elements really shine through in the trailer as they walk around the ship being chased by an Alien.

๐Ÿงด Skincare

I'm not sure what to make of this new film starring Elizabeth Banks. It comes from some relatively new people (Austin Peters, Sam Freilich, Deering Regan) and looks intriguing. Nerd favorite Nathan Fillion is also in the cast.

That's it! We should be back to something closer to regularly scheduled program as I get back into the rhythm and publish the new Sonic Vibrations in a day or two, plus new stuff from Jack, Cavendish from Joel, and more!

Be kind and stay sane,
