The Thursday edition

Welcome back! I guess this is turning more into a monthly thing as of late... but we have extremely exciting things on the horizon as we expand our publishing schedule, bring on artists, and launch a fiction podcast to accompany our Thursday short stories. So keep your eyes peeled next week!

But there's lots to talk about, so let's get on with it.

Yes, yes, yes. The team of Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, and Yorgos Lanthimos is becoming a powerhouse in surreal filmmaking and I'm here for absolutely every second of it. Bugonia might actually be my most anticipated movie of the year after watching this teaser.

Ari Aster is an enigma as a director to me. His films starkly contrast the rest of Hollywood in a way that's hard to put your finger on. It's almost PT Anderson meets Robert Eggers in the way he uses the camera, patience, surrealism, and just pure weirdness.

Villeneuve will also serve as executive producer, alongside Tanya Lapointe. As previously announced, Amy Pascal and David Heyman will serve as producers.

I mean, there is no one better to give the reins to than Villeneuve, but if I’m being honest… I’m nervous about this—especially given the timing since they already locked in shooting for 2026 before attaching Villeneuve. He already has Dune: Messiah is in pre-production for a 2026 release too. It feels like a lot of big budget filmmaking to manage. He's either going to have to drop the ball or have less creative control to be able to fit everything in. I guess in the end it means more movies from Villeneuve. Hopefully he can go make something non-franchise after this with a giant budget.

Below the Fold we dive into TV ratings, indie film studios, Wong Kar-Wai, Motion City Soundtrack, Chrononauts, A Christmas Carol, and so much more.
